Health Cabinet Secretary, Aden Duale, today provided updates on Social Health Authority (SHA) operations where he disclosed that 24 million Kenyans have been enrolled to Taifa Care under SHA with 5.4 million citizens, having accessed vital health care services through the Primary Health Care Fund. "The government has disbursed 551.3 billion shillings to 7,446 accredited facilities and this has helped us enable life-saving interventions from safe child birth services to critical chronic disease management and emergency care," Duale stated.

Speaking during a meeting with SHA Board members and management at NHIF Building in Upper-Hill, Nairobi, Duale emphasised that the foundation of Taifa Care success pivots on three principles namely, financial stability through consistent premiums contribution, an uncompromising stand against fraud and insurance fraud and lastly, access to universal quality care.

He further integrated the Council's data with the digital superhighway that resulted to closure of 728 non- compliant facilities and downgraded another 301 facilities.

Thirty-one facilities in several counties including Kisumu, Kiambu, Bungoma, Busia, Kajiado, Kilifi, Mandera and Wajir among others, have been suspended and are under investigation. "I am proud to announce that 1.8 million informal sector workers have already enrolled with Taifa Care in just eight months, surpassing the previous NHIF informal sector enrolment by over 800,000 beneficiaries," he added. "His Excellency the President introduced the Lipa Pole Pole initiative.
