Former Nominated Member of Parliament Catherine Nyamato, a revered veteran legislator, has died.  Nyamato held the honour of being the first Gusii woman MP, a pioneering feat achieved through her nomination by former President Daniel arap Moi under the then-ruling KANU party.  According to reports, Nyamato collapsed suddenly by the roadside near her farm in Kijauri, Nyamira County, on Wednesday.

She was reportedly engaging with youth working on a local project when the incident occurred.  She was immediately rushed to Summit Hospital, a local facility, where she was tragically pronounced dead.
