Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) has completed the full restoration of the crucial Loiyangalani-Suswa 400kV Double Circuit Transmission Line in a major move set to reduce blackouts in the northern part of the country.  The project, which was valued at Ksh46.13 million and USD 1,598,660 (Ksh207 million), was meant to enhance grid reliability and support the evacuation of renewable energy from the Lake Turkana Wind Power (LTWP) plant.

This was achieved through the replacement of six transmission towers which had collapsed near Longonot.

The collapse disrupted the stable flow of electricity from the Lake Turkana Wind Power (LTWP) plant to the national grid.  Besides the tower replacement, restoration works also included conductor stringing and installation of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW).

These are essential components for efficient and reliable power transmission.  L-R KETRACO Ag.
