The National Police Service (NPS) has distanced itself from the sentiments expressed by a police officer who advised that the police force should reduce the recruitment of women officers.

Speaking during the Jukwaa La Usalama forum in Laikipia, a Nyahururu-based Officer Commanding Station (OCS) suggested that the number of female recruits be capped at 20 per cent, claiming they were a liability to the force as they are 'weak', especially during protests. ''I'd propose that the percentage of women recruits be capped at 20 percent, like me, during the June 25 protests.

I told all the ladies to remain behind, because they are weak, you find some of them even vomitting on duty,'' the officer alleged amid chants from colleagues.

Responding to the remarks, the NPS reaffirmed the Service's commitment to gender equality and constitutional representation.
