The National Police Service (NPS) has cautioned against speeding and drink driving, citing them as some of the preventable causes of accidents.
NPS Director of Corporate Communication Muchiri Nyaga, in a statement where he referenced the recent spate of road accidents, said the service is working collaboratively with other agencies to investigate. "The National Police Service is working with various state agencies to conduct thorough and expeditious investigations to determine the causes of these accidents," he said.
The police spokesperson pointed out that the vast majority of these accidents are preventable if road users change their behaviour by avoiding speeding, dangerous overtaking, drink-driving, overloading, driver fatigue, and careless road crossing. "Road crashes cause immense suffering to the affected families, and every possible measure must be taken to prevent further loss of life," he said.
He said that to effectively prevent deaths on Kenyan roads, all stakeholders in the road transport sector must play their roles.
