Students of Chania Girls High School in Thika have received a reprieve following launch of new, modern classrooms that were built by the area NG/CDF, ending over two years wait that saw some students learn in tents due to overcrowding.

The opening of the three classrooms, according to School Principal Lillian Wambui is timely and a major milestone, coming before the commencement of the long rains much to the relief of the learners.

Speaking during the event, Ms Wambui said over 100 Form Two learners who have endured the difficult learning environment under the immense heat in the tents will move to the new classrooms. "This is a major milestone to the school and also the learners who have braved learning under the scorching heat of tents as well as coldness especially during rainy seasons.

Teaching too had been affected by the noise and dust since the tent classes were close to the roadside," Ms Wambui said.
