Elders from Migori County have called upon political leaders in the area to tone down political utterances that may lead to political intolerance.

Speaking during a peace meeting in Awendo town organised by Sakwa East Africa Elders Forum, the elders noted with concern the raising political temperatures in the county. "We have a long way to go before the 2027 general elections, and it would only proper if our elected leaders focused more on development rather than politics," said Sylvester Owiji.

Owiji who is also the Chairperson of the Sakwa East Africa Elders Forum noted with concern that early and premature campaigns may delay the economic development of the county.

He pointed out that for devolution to work and benefit the counties, governors should be given ample time to deliver on their election pledges. "I am calling upon the political leaders and opinion shapers to help our county government led by Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko to deliver the economic agenda before we can discuss what he did or did not do in 2027," explained Owiji.
