Witnesses of the train accident that occurred in Lugari, Kakamega County, on Wednesday, March 19, have recounted the last moments leading to the tragedy.

Speaking to the press on Thursday, a resident who was tending to his farm when he spotted the train derailing noted that attempts to alert the freight driver proved futile.

The witness revealed that he saw the wheels of the last two wagons coming off each at a time, but according to him, the driver was too reluctant to take his advice. "I was carrying out farming activities near the railway line when I suddenly saw the wheels of the train coming off.

I tried to alert the driver and told him to reduce the speed," said the first witness.
