The Court of Appeal has suspended a High Court order that quashed President William Ruto's university funding model. The orders now give the government a green light to resume the Variable Scholarship Loan Funding Model, which marks a big win for Ruto. The Variable Scholarship Loan Funding Model is a new system by the government for funding university and TVET students.
Launched in 2023, it replaces the old Uniform Funding Model, which gave equal support to all students regardless of their financial situation.
In a ruling delivered on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, the appellate court stayed the High Court's decision, allowing the contested funding framework to remain in effect for now.
