Nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege has claimed that former President Uhuru Kenyatta played a key role in weakening the political influence of the Mount Kenya region.
In an interview with Spice FM on Thursday, March 27, the MP stated that the former President did not mentor anyone to serve as the region's political face when he was about to leave office in 2022. "I want to take you back to when we had President Kibaki.
When his time came, it was not he who spoke, but he had some senior figures in his Cabinet who would tell you that if you wanted to come to Central Kenya, the only person you should speak to was Uhuru Kenyatta because he was going to take up leadership," she said. "But when we got to 2022, there was a bit of a split because we saw people leaving the Jubilee Party, which was seen as the party for Mount Kenya.
By the time the former President left, he did not really mentor or pass the baton, nor did he use his allies to prepare the next leader of the region," she added.
