Kenya and the United Nations are in discussion to make the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) a regional humanitarian hub, which will significantly raise the airport's global standing and revenue generation. According to Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, the government and the UN are discussing plans for a humanitarian logistics hub at JKIA to coordinate its humanitarian operations in the Eastern and Southern Africa region.
A humanitarian hub is a central facility or coordination centre where humanitarian organisations, aid agencies, and other stakeholders collaborate to deliver emergency relief, support disaster response, or provide ongoing assistance to vulnerable communities.
This would place JKIA at the centre of most, if not all, of the humanitarian operations of the UN within the region.
