Chief Justice Martha Koome has called on the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to take a firm stand against incitement, hate speech, and ethnic profiling.
Speaking on Wednesday, April 2, during the swearing-in of the new NCIC CEO, Koome urged the commission to be bold in addressing early signs of political tension. "As we observe the early signs of political mobilisation and continue to hear increasingly of very diverse rhetoric both in public forums and on social media platforms, I urge the commission to be bold and unwavering in addressing any sign of incitement, any sign of hate speech, and any sign of ethnic profiling," she said.
She warned the commission that failure to act could have the potential harm to national unity and threaten peace and stability.
