In a rare turn of events at the Milimani Courts, lawyers and a magistrate joined hands to save a housemaid from being slapped with a jail term after they rallied to clear her debt on the spot.
Appearing virtually before Magistrate Justine Asiago with her baby in hand, the housemaid had been sued for being unable to settle a debt.
The accused told the judge that she only earned Ksh5,000 and could not settle the Ksh20,000 debt.
In the judgment, the justice told her that he had no choice but to send her to jail if she could not settle the debt.
