Nyeri county government has disbursed bursary cheques worth Sh 4.1 million to 215 secondary school students from needy backgrounds, through the Governor's Scholarship Program.

The initiative, which is spearheaded by the county government, targets 60 secondary school students annually where each of the beneficiaries is awarded a four-year full secondary school scholarship.

The cheques are meant to cater for the student's school fees and upkeep when learning resumes on Monday for Term 2.

Speaking during the event, Nyeri Deputy Governor Warui Kinaniri, reiterated the county's steadfast commitment to supporting education and empowering the youth through education.
