Police have released a Kitui-based blogger on a cash bail of Sh50,000 after spending a night at a Muthaiga police station, Nairobi.
The blogger Emmanuel Maleve had been arrested on Labour Day on allegations of defaming Kitui South MP Rachel Kaki and ferried to the city Speaking to the press at a Nairobi hotel flanked by his lawyers, Jeremiah Mumo, President of the East African Youth Parliament, accused the MP of orchestrating his arrest. "I was arrested on Labour Day as I headed to the building where I do my business, and was told that I was defaming the MP.
I was told the case is for Nairobi and it involves cybercrime misuse therefore, they have to come with me to Nairobi," said the blogger.
He said that he was taken to court yesterday, but the DPP declined to approve his charges of which police told him to deposit a cash bail of Sh50 000 and report at Muthaiga police station on May 08 to check the progress of the case.
