The government has redoubled efforts in fast-tracking development in arid and semi-arid parts of the country that had hitherto lagged behind in growth.
The move has seen residents of Illeret Division in North Horr Constituency benefit from a water project implemented by the State Department for Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) and Regional Development after a long period without the vital commodity.
The Principal Secretary for ASALs and Regional Development, Kello Harsama, said when he commissioned the Illeret community borehole at Balkachoki area that the initiative would alleviate water shortage and contribute to the improvement of the general welfare of the local community.
The project, which involved the rehabilitation of the high-yielding borehole, construction of livestock watering troughs, restoration of water tanks, and piping, was realized through the Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA) at a cost of Sh12 million.
