Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Friday reassured Nyandarua residents that the Kenya Kwanza government will complete all projects it promised for Nyandarua before 2027.
Speaking when he launched the resumption of tarmacking of the 27.5-kilometer Tumaini-Gwa Kiongo-Kabazi road in Ol Kalou constituency, Kindiki promised to camp in the County to ensure the projects are completed quickly. Kidiki said the road will cost Sh1.1 billion and the contractor, S.S Mehta, has returned to the site after he was paid his pending dues adding that in addition to the road, the government will upgrade other roads in Nyandarua County totaling 282km.
The Deputy President also announced that Sh500 million is available for immediate electrification in the County and Sh1.6 billion will be used in the next two years to also connect 600,000 homes. "Those who think they will use the stalled projects as a political weapon against us will be surprised because all the roads, electrification and market projects will be completed before 2027," Kindiki said. Kindiki also inspected the ongoing construction of a modern market at Gwa-Kiongo town, noting that the market will have cold rooms where traders will store their perishable goods to avoid post-harvest losses. "This market will have a breastfeeding section for mothers, a boardroom where traders will hold their meetings and also a digital hub for those doing digital jobs," he said. He added the government has decided to shelve politics and concentrate on delivering on promises made during campaigns. He said the country's economy had recovered from the effects of Covid-19, as evidenced by drop in cost of essential commodities like unga and fuel.
Leader of majority Kimani Ichung'wa and MPs George Gachagua (Ndaragwa) and Kwenya Thuku (Kinangop) cautioned area residents against fighting the government in power saying the region would benefit a lot if they supported the administration.
