The government is set to conduct a mapping and geo-location exercise on all the industry establishments in Nairobi County within the next two months.
Mapping is the process of creating visual representations like maps showing exactly where the industries are located, while geolocation is the process of identifying the physical location of the establishments of a device or person using technologies like GPS or Wi-Fi.
According to a public notice released on Tuesday, April 6, the exercise, which will be conducted this month and next month, aims to fabricate a database and directory of industries within all 147 sub-locations in the county. The government has, however, not said the exact date when the process will kickstart.

"The State Department for Industry, in collaboration with the State Department for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development and the State Department for Economic Planning, together with their agencies, Kenya Industrial Estates and Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, intends to conduct Mapping of Industries within Nairobi County," the notice read. According to the government, the process, which will involve trained research assistants, will be conducted in an orderly manner without compromising operations in these establishments. The management in these establishments has been urged to be fully cooperative and provide accurate data to ensure that the process is seamless. "Trained Research Assistants will visit industrial establishments across all the 147 Sub-locations in Nairobi County to collect relevant data between the months of May and June 2025," it stated. "Industry management is urged to be receptive and cooperative in providing accurate data to facilitate the success of this important initiative," it added. The announcement comes almost a week after the Wildlife Principal Secretary, Silvia Museiya, in a press briefing on Monday, April 28, stated that the government is set to demolish factories established within the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) along Mombasa Road to pave the way for a wildlife migratory corridor.
