Construction of a new Sh. 314 million Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower at the Kisumu International Airport (KIA) is 80 percent complete, signaling a major upgrade in the airport's capacity to manage growing air traffic in the western region.
The facility, which is an upgrade from the 53-year-old tower currently in use, is set to improve working conditions for the air traffic controllers and will play a huge role in facilitating smooth air traffic management at the airport.
Besides modern fittings and equipment, the building comes with sufficient offices to accommodate operational staff to provide effective and efficient services to allow for an expeditious flow of air traffic into and out of the airport.
Kisumu International Airport has witnessed tremendous growth as an air traffic hub with increased aircraft departures and arrivals reaching 12,080 in 2022.
