Manyatta Member of Parliament Gitonga Mukunji has been arrested, the National Police Service (NPS) has confirmed.

While releasing an update on the Saba Saba protests on Monday, July 7, NPS confirmed Mukunji's arrest, but did not reveal where he was locked up.

Mukunji, an ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, is believed to have been nabbed over allegations of incitement to violence during the Saba Saba Day protests.  According to Ndegwa Njiru, one of Gachagua's lawyers, Mukunji was arrested at around 3pm and booked at Kibii Police Station at 3:53pm via OB number 06/07/07/2025.  Manyatta MP John Gitonga Mukunji addressing the press at a past event Facebook Njiru also revealed that Mukunji was later picked up by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers from Juja Police Station, a development that was confirmed by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Kibii. "The OCS has confirmed that he only booked him for the exclusive purpose of holding him," Njiru stated.

While disclosing the lack of information on the lawmaker's whereabouts, Njiru noted that Mukunji's car was left at the Kibii station.
