As the country prepares for the historic transition to grade 10 under the Competency-Based Education (CBE) in January 2026, parents are being urged to support their children in selecting a senior secondary school and aligning their chosen pathway with career goals.
Under CBE, learners entering senior school will pursue one of three pathways: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), Social Sciences, Arts, and Sports Science.

Leila Abubakar, Vice‑Chancellor of the Technical University of Mombasa, said the new education model will nurture talents, accelerate learning and foster creativity, unlike the rote learning under the 8-4-4 system.
