Jera Mixed Secondary School in Siaya County was closed indefinitely on Friday, July 18, following tension and unrest among the students.
The angry students took to the streets, calling out the school principal over an alleged food shortage.
They held a peaceful demonstration to protest against the head teacher, whom they accused of mismanaging the institution.
According to the students, they were only served ugali and soup on Thursday night, and woke up to boiled water without sugar instead of the usual cup of porridge. "We have been observing around, and there is no food in this school," one student stated.
