The Marakwet West Sub-County Alcoholic Drinks Control Regulation Committee in Elgeyo-Marakwet County, has suspended the operations of several alcohol-selling establishments in Kapsowar Town for failing to meet regulatory guidelines.
Following a review of applications and inspection reports, only four outlets Arawa Bar, Smartlife Sacco Bar, Oasis Bar and Restaurant, and Talic Supermarket Wines and Spirits were cleared to operate.
Speaking during the announcement, Elgeyo Marakwet County Director of Alcoholic Drinks Control, David Kandie, said the suspended outlets like Kapyoswo, Kalyet, and East Inn bars failed to meet key compliance requirements. "Kapyoswo bar was denied approval due to a serious security breach after a stabbing incident occurred there.
Kalyet Bar's application was rejected because of its proximity to Kapsowar Girls' School, while East Inn was flagged for excessive noise, which disrupted the learning environment of the nearby school," Kandie explained.
