At least five people died on Monday evening following a grisly road accident that occurred in the Mbaruk area of Gilgil, along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
According to a police report, the accident, which happened at around 6:30 pm, occurred after a personal car lost control and rammed into an oncoming truck before being hit by a trailer.
According to some witnesses, the driver of the car was attempting to overtake another vehicle on the single-lane highway when the vehicle collided head-on with the truck.
Speaking to the press moments after the accident, Nakuru County Traffic Officer Allan Ogolla disclosed that all five occupants of the private car, among them an infant, lost their lives on the spot.
