The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has summoned Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok, former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati, and several business associates to its Nairobi headquarters for questioning over corruption allegations.
In a statement on Friday, August 29, 2025, the EACC announced it had received permission from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to charge the officials. "Today, the EACC received consent from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to investigate allegations of conflicts of interest against the Governor of Bomet County and allegations of public fund embezzlement against the former Governor of Bungoma County," the statement read.
The first case involves allegations of a conflict of interest against Governor Barchok and Evans Kipkoech Korir, a director at Chemasus Construction Limited. Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok addressed residents in the region.
