The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has released the requirements and qualifications for candidates in the November 27, 2025, by-elections, which will cover 24 seats nationwide.
The Commission said that aspirants should meet citizenship requirements, pay nomination fees, and, for independent candidates, submit lists of supporters with copies of their identity cards. "Candidates must be Kenyan citizens by birth and have been citizens for at least 10 years before the election.
Those holding dual citizenship will be required to renounce it before taking the oath of office," IEBC said.
According to the guidelines by IEBC, nomination fees will depend on the seat and candidate category.
