Two people Sharon Nanjala Anyango,26, and Tobias Ngala Wekesa,23 have been arrested in Bungoma for impersonating senior officials of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and attempting to extort money from public officials and citizens.
According to a statement by the EACC CEO Abdi Mahamud, the duo allegedly posed as EACC directors, falsely claiming they had the power to terminate ongoing corruption cases in exchange for payment.
The suspects were apprehended on Monday, 27th January, 2025, in a sting operation following a complaint by local government officials.
Wekesa, who falsely identified himself as the Director in charge of the EACC Kakamega office, is a third-year student at Kibabii University while Anyango, who posed as a senior EACC Director based in Nairobi, allegedly graduated from Kibabii University in 2024 "The duo had raided a National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) office, claiming they were conducting an official investigation into ongoing projects.
