School heads nationwide are grappling with frustration and a severe cash crunch as they enter the third week of Term Three.

This comes even as the Education ministry on Friday announced it had begun releasing capitation funds to schools that have submitted enrolment data for verification.

Basic Education PS Julius Bitok, however, said only 3,000 out of 32,000 schools whose data has been received at the Ministry headquarters have been cleared and consequently received Third Term capitation after their data was certified as genuine. "So far, 3,000 schools have been able to receive capitation after being verified to have the correct data on the correct number of students that are in schools.

We are anticipating that by the end of next week, all of our 32,000 schools will have received their money," said Prof Bitok on Friday at the Machakos Teachers Training College, where the verification process is underway.
