Parliament has dismissed widespread claims circulating online that a new bill seeks to extend the term of the President and other elected leaders from five to seven years.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Senate clarified that the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill, 2025, does not in any way propose changes to presidential, gubernatorial, parliamentary, or county assembly term limits.  The House described the reports as misleading and cautioned Kenyans against falling for misinformation. "This information is incorrect.

A review of the official Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill, 2025, shows that the claims being made are false," the Senate stated.

The clarification comes after intense debate on social media, where claims of a bid to alter the President's term limits sparked public uproar on Tuesday morning.
