The government has dismissed reports appearing in sections of the media alleging that it has reintroduced cut-off points for admission to university and funding of the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

In a press statement sent to newsrooms, the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Ogamba, announced that the minimum admission requirement to university, which will apply to the 2024 KCSE cohort, will be a mean grade of C+ (plus) and above. "All the 246,391 students who attained the Mean Grade of C+ and above qualify for university admission," he said.

The CS also clarified that the Education Ministry's projection of the funds that will be required if all the 246, 391 candidates join university to fund their education is Sh 25.85 billion every year and not Sh 100 billion as carried in the media. "The projection of Sh100 billion will be the total cost over a four-year period," he said.

Ogamba further announced that the placement portal for the September, 2025 university intake will be opened in March, 2025 by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).
