An unidentified man doused himself with petrol and also set himself on fire outside the Supreme Court building in Nairobi.

According to the Judiciary Spokesperson Paul Ndemo, the man who was walking along City Hall Way stopped outside the Supreme Court building and was carrying some documents and a bottle with a liquid believed to be petrol. "The man while standing on the street pavement, at around 9.30 am placed the documents on the ground, doused himself in the liquid believed to be petrol and pulled out a lighter setting himself on fire," he said.

In a press statement sent to newsrooms, Ndemo stated that the man who sustained some burns was rescued by security officers at the gate of the Supreme Court building who responded immediately by putting out the fire.

The spokesperson said Nairobi County Government rushed the man to Kenyatta National Hospital for treatment. "Police officers stationed at KICC Police Station took away the documents and the burnt clothes.
