Mathioya Member of Parliament (MP) Edwin Mugo has called upon elected leaders to focus on service delivery and evaluate their performance over the two and a half years they have been in office. Speaking at Mananga Primary School in Mathioya, the legislator said Kenyans are not interested in politics therefore leaders should inspect the progress that they have made so far as they are now halfway through their five-year term. "Today we are here to evaluate the work we have been doing for the people of Mathioya for the last two and a half years since the elections," he said. "As a leader I am looking at my scorecard and I will also consult with the people of Mathioya so that they can tell us what to focus on for the remaining part of the term," he added. He emphasized that the Kenyans expect their leaders to deliver on the promises they made instead of focusing on politics. "Kenyans do not want politics and more promises; they want their elected leaders to deliver and leave politics for the appropriate time," he said. Among the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF)-funded projects Mugo commissioned are five classrooms at Mananga Primary School and five others at Warugara and Kagumoini Primary Schools that were renovated with tiled floors and new roofs. "We have been renovating classrooms, replacing the old floors with tiles and replacing the roofs," he said. The MP also commissioned a Kagumoini chief's camp that encompasses residential houses for the police, the chief and the assistant chief. Mugo also launched the 2025 bursaries by issuing checks to model students who were the top-performing students in primary schools whose secondary school fees from form one to form four are paid by NGCDF. He also issued bursary checks to day secondary school students, boarding secondary school students and students in tertiary institutions. "Today, as we launch this year's bursary, we are issuing checks to more than 650 students," he disclosed. He explained that the amount issued to non-boarding secondary school students has increased from Sh3000 to Sh5000, while the amount given to boarding secondary school students has increased from Sh6000 to Sh8000. The MP called upon parents to work closely with their children so as to improve the standards of education in the constituency. "Parents have to support the education of their children starting from home so that the concerted efforts can be evident in their performance in school," Mugo said. Meanwhile, he vowed to set aside funds for drilling boreholes in public schools to ensure they have access to clean water and installing solar panels to cut on the power bills. "The boreholes and solar panels will bring down the cost of running public schools and prevent the burden from these bills from cascading down to the parents," he said. By Purity Mugo
