West Pokot Pokot governor Simon Kachapin today received a diplomatic delegation from the Embassy and Government of Ireland, led by His Excellency Neale Richmond, the minister of state for International Development and Diaspora, and Ireland's Ambassador to Kenya, His Excellency Caitriona Ingoldsby, for an official meeting at the governor's residence in Kapenguria town.
During the meeting, Governor Kachapin extended a warm welcome to the Irish officials and highlighted that their visit to the county would help to strengthen partnership with Ireland to advance climate action and peacebuilding efforts in the county in areas prone to conflict due to scarcity of resources.
Kachapin acknowledged the long-standing cordial relationship between Kenya and Ireland, noting that the county has been a beneficiary of the positive bilateral partnership.
He mentioned that climate change had significantly impacted the region, leading to conflicts due to natural resource scarcity, such as water and pasture for livestock.
