Education Cabinet Secretary (CS), Julius Ogamba, has encouraged parents to enrol their children in the already-established Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions for skills development.
Speaking in the Bomachoge Borabu Constituency, CS Ogamba said the government aims at equipping the young people with the relevant skills to enable them to tackle unemployment among the youth. "Currently, we have about 3.8 million youth between the ages of 15-35 years, who are not in school and lack jobs.
As a result, we are working towards ensuring that these young people are enrolled in TVETs so that they can acquire the relevant skills to help them fend for themselves," he noted.
The Cabinet Secretary decried the low student enrolment at the neighbouring TVET in Kilgoris Constituency, saying that only 250 students were currently admitted at the institution.
