Drivers John Mwangi and Dominic Amaya, who were behind the viral Rongai matatus impounded by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), have been fined Ksh50,000.

Mwangi, the driver of Ambush, and Amaya, the driver of Moneyfest, were charged with operating unroadworthy vehicles along Ongata Rongai and Langata in Nairobi.

The matatus caused outrage online after being spotted driving at high speeds while two men dangerously hung on top of them.

The Kibera Law Courts fined each driver Ksh50,000 or six months imprisonment after they pleaded guilty to the charges.
