The Muslim community in Kitui County has received assorted food aid commodities from the national government in efforts to alleviate possible threats of food shortages during the holy month of Ramadhan. The food aid which included 310 (50kg) bags of rice and 268 (50kg) bags of beans, was distributed to all Muslims across the county.
Kitui County Commissioner (CC) Kipchumba Ruto while presiding over the food aid distribution ceremony held at Manyenyoni chief's office in Kitui town, said that the donation aims to ensure that fasting Muslims have access to adequate food as well as reduce threats of possible food shortages during the holy period.
The County Commissioner who is also chairman of the county security committee, assured the county residents of calm and peace and commended residents over prevailing peace especially in border communities along the borders of Kitui County, Tana River and Garissa Counties.
He added that the government has beefed up security along the notoriously insecure border areas after recruitment and deployment of over 300 Kenya Police Reservists (KPR) in affected zones.
