The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) Chief Executive Officer, Agnes Wahome, has disclosed why students who qualify for university are rushing for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses.

During an interview on KBC on Tuesday, April 8, Wahome revealed that the demand for TVET courses had significantly increased due to the low enrolment requirements and the high demand in the labour market.

She explained that as of March this year, over 7,000 students who scored C+ and above in their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) had applied for TVET courses. "The demand is higher because a student who scores very good grades would rather go and start at a diploma level rather than take a university course," Wahome revealed.

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) CEO Agnes Mercy Wahome Photo KUCCPS "As we speak, the students who we have already placed before we opened for university placement, 7,000 of those who had C+ and above, had already taken up TVET courses," she added.
