Governor Amos Nyaribo has commissioned a state of the art Mother and newborn unit at Ekerenyo Sub County hospital in Nyamira County to boost health services in the area.
The Governor acknowledged that the facility will decongest Nyamira County Teaching and Referral Hospital (NTRH) for services to patients from neighbouring sub counties thereby bringing health care services to expectant mothers and their new born infants closer to the rural population. "Ekerenyo sub County hospital will be the first one to offer this specialised surgical services in the sub county because the other two facilities are in Nyamira South Sub County at Nyamira town and Masaba North Sub County at Keroka town which had posed a serious challenge to residents from this area to access fast and efficient services far from them," Nyaribo stated.
The county boss confirmed that neonatal mortality rate was 27 percent in a 1,000 births while that of infant mortality rate stood at 31 percent for every 1,000 live birth and promised that they will work round the clock with the help of these fully equipped facility and adequately trained medical personnel to ensure no life is lost be it that of a mother or a child during birth.
Governor Nyaribo thanked the government of Finland who delivered the modern facility he launched saying their cordial relationship and partnership to boost health services in Nyamira County has borne fruit. "Finland's promise to deliver the project in record time is a sure indication that the coordination between the county government of Nyamira and government of Finland was a very good one and has enabled the people of Nyamira benefit in receiving efficient health care services.
